I run this site myself, and I keep the data collection to what is actually needed. Here is everything.
Analytics. ITPro-Tips.com uses Plausible Analytics, run by a company based in Estonia. No cookies, no persistent identifiers, no tracking across sites or devices. Only aggregated information is processed: page views, referrer, browser, operating system, device type, and location down to city level. Your IP address is never stored, it is only used to compute a daily anonymous identifier whose salt is deleted every 24 hours. Plausible processes and stores this data in the European Union. Comments. No account is required. You can sign in with GitHub, which passes your GitHub username and avatar to the comment system, or simply type a display name and post. Either way, your name and the text of your comment are stored on the server that runs this site. No email address is asked for, and none is collected. Ask me and I will delete your comments.
Contact form. What you write in the contact form is stored in Airtable, which I use to keep track of messages and answer them. That means your message and your email address are held by Airtable, an American company, and leave the European Union. If you would rather not, write to me directly by email instead.
Affiliate links. Some articles contain affiliate links. If you follow one, the destination site may set its own cookies to attribute the visit. That happens on their side, under their own privacy policy, and only if you click. I never receive personal data from those programs, only aggregate figures.
Where the data lives. This site and its comments run on a server I rent from DigitalOcean in Amsterdam. Analytics are processed by Plausible, in the European Union. The contact form is the one exception, it goes to Airtable in the United States. No advertising network, no data broker.
Your data. Ask me for a copy of what I have about you, or ask me to delete it, and I will. Use the contact form, or email me if you prefer not to use it.
